Mathilde’s selfish reasons

In the Necklace Mathilde was invited to a ball. Her husband told her to go then she got mad because she thought that as an insult because, she was carrying a sack of potatoes on her back and she is not rich. Next they talked and she went but she borrowed a necklace from her rich friend and then lost it. I think Mathilde is a girl that is selfish, rude, and trying to be someone she’s not.

A second example is that she is trying to pretend she is someone she’s not because she is pretending she’s rich and wealthy but she just wants to blend in with the other people that are wealthy and rich people. In the text it states “I’m utterly miserable at not having any jewels, not a single stone,to wear,” she replied. “I shall look at absolutely no one. I would almost rather not go to the party .”

Last she lost the necklace and she didn’t tell her friend that she lost it also she got a new identical necklace that took her ten years to pay off. According to the text it states “I brought you another one just like it. And for the last ten years we have been paying it. You realise it wasn’t easy for us;we had no money…well it’s paid for at last, and I’m glad indeed.”

These are some reasons that she is rude, selfish, and pretending to be someone she is not. She should have a better behavior. Also she got taught a lesson at the end of the story and will never do anything like that again.
